Monarch Tracking
For the past couple years, we have enjoyed finding caterpillar eggs and raising them from caterpillars to beautiful Monarchs. Summer of 2023 was the first year we decided to track our Monarchs. We got tracking tags from a nonprofit education, conservation, and research program called Monarch Watch.

At the end of the summer, we tagged our last group of Monarchs, the ones that would fly to Mexico. In the photo on this page, you can see the small tag we place on their wing.

Unfortunately, none of our butterflies have been tracked back to the states after wintering in Mexico. But, according to the 2023 Monarch Watch update, there were 29 recovered from Minnesota, one even recorded as close at Shakopee, MN.
